Kathy can be seen on HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire” guest starring as the legendary Sophie Tucker, telling off color jokes and belting out a tune! In addition to guest starring on “Boardwalk Empire” Kathy also tours with the Divas, a country music trio with daytime stars Kassie DePaiva (Blair, OLTL) and Bobbie Eakes (Krystal, AMC). The Divas recently opened for Charlie Daniels, and have been on the same bill with the likes of Gretchen Wilson and Montgomery Gentry.
Kathy Brier is most well known for having created the role of “One Life to Live’s” Marcie Walsh for ABC. Originally slated for a recurring role, Ms. Brier was soon put on contract. In 2004, she received her first Daytime Emmy nomination in the Supporting Actress category. In 2007, she won Canada’s Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama. “One Life to Live” marked her first major television role.
At the same, Ms. Brier took on double duty with OLTL and the role of Tracy Turnblad in the Broadway production of “Hairspray”. While doing “Hairspray” Kathy received the “Phenomenal Woman” award given out by the 98.7 KISS FM’s Morning Wake Up Club! And was dubbed by NY Daily News as “the hardest working woman in show biz”!
After leaving “Hairspray” and OLTL Kathy went on to do her first major voice-over role as Babalulu the clown on “JoJo’s Circus,” Disney Playhouse Channel. She also released her first solo CD “Heartbreaker.”
She can also be heard on a number of cast recordings including “Bat Boy: The Musical,” “The Prince and the Pauper,” and “Elegies For Angels, Punks & Raging Queens.” She is also a featured performer on the Grammy nominated CD “The Actor’s Fund Benefit Concert of Hair,” (www.actorsfund.org) and she has two tracks (“Provincetown,” and “Louisiana Holiday,” the later written by Chris Barron the lead singer of the Spin Doctors) on the CD “One Life Many Voices” which benefits Hurricane Relief (www.facebook.com/onelife.manyvoices). Currently she is in the middle of producing her sophomore CD entitled “Stories” featuring the music she performed while on OLTL.
Ms. Brier was born and raised on Staten Island, NY. She attended Moore Catholic High School where she was an award winning member of the Moore Catholic Forensic team on the City, State and National levels. She then went on to study theatre and business at Wagner College, where she received a BS in Arts Administration. Ms. Brier recently received The Wagner Alumni Fellows Award in Theatre from The National Alumni Association.
She has been a singer, dancer and actress for over 18 years and began acting in the theatre, with regional credits that include Fanny Brice in “Funny Girl,” Libby Tucker in “I Oughta Be in Pictures,” Joy in “Cinderella” and Rizzo In “Grease.” Her Off-Broadway credits include Ron Taylor and Mayor Maggie in “Bat Boy: The Musical” at Union Square Theatre, “The Prince and the Pauper” at The Lamb’s Theatre, “O’Casey Knock” at The John Houseman Theatre and “Tango Ballad” at The Actor’s Studio. Ms. Brier currently resides in NYC. In addition to acting, she loves to read and swim.
